I teach beginning to intermediate piano, voice, music theory, and performance.
What you can Expect from a Lesson
First of all, I hope to make the lessons fun! I start by assessing the student’s current musical knowledge, if any, and set goals with the student.
For piano lessons we generally follow a book series such as Piano Pronto or Piano Adventures, but we can usually follow another series if the student has been using something else. For 30-minute lessons, we might start with the student playing the piece they're working on, making corrections, and answering any questions they have. They we typically spend a few minutes on theory such as scales or key signatures, and then work on whatever music they will be practicing over the following week. My goal is to have the student enjoy the learning process.
Voice lessons are more flexible since every student has very different skills, experiences, and goals. Generally we work on posture, pitch, diction (pronunciation), breathing, performance, and the ever-important "I want to sing higher!" also known as increasing their range.
